The łódzkie province is situated in the central part of Poland. It covers the territory of 18 219 km². This province is divided into 20 districts, 3 cities having district rights and 177 communes; 42 cities. Łódź is the administrative center. The biggest cities are Łódź, Piotrków Trybunalski, Pabianice, Tomaszów Mazowiecki and Bełchatów.

Vysočina

The Wysoczyzna land (kraj Vysocina) is called "the green heart" of the Czech Republic because it boasts one of the cleanest natural environments. This land, which has the territory of almost 7 thousands km², is wild, beautiful, full of surprising and romantic views. There are here hills and valleys, a richness of forests and groves, streams and ponds. The unique atmosphere of this region has delighted numerous artists, painters, sculptors, composers and writers since long ago. This place is ideal not only for an active relaxation but also for the purposes of recreation.

The Wysoczyzna land is situated right in the heart of the Czech Republic between two historical lands, the Czech and the Morawy. It comprises the territory of south – Czech fish ponds and reaches till the Hane region. The average height of this region is over 800 m. There are here two mountain ranges: the Jihlavskie vrchy in the south – western territory and the Zdarske vrchy in the north of this region.

On the territory of the Vysociny region there are as many as 124 natural reserves and 9 landscape parks. Unique natural attractions are among others: the Zdarskie Vrchy reserve and the Stvoridla reserve, the Mohelno steppe, the Darko water reservoir, the Doubrava valley, the Velky Szpicak.

The Wysoczyzna land boasts an exceptionally clean air. This is as though an island of clean nature pressed between the urbanized areas of the cities of Prague, Brno and Vienna. The most famous monuments of this region had been typed into the World Cultural Heritage List UNESCO. These are: the renaissance palace and the historical center of Telc, the church of the saint Jan Nepomucen in the town of Zelene Hore in the Zdar region and Sazavou, the Jewish ghetto and the basilica of saint Prokopus in the town of Trebic. Typical for the Vysocina region are small towns (from 3 to 10 thousands of inhabitants). There are here over 700 of them. Only 4 cities have over 20 thousands inhabitants. The capital city of the Wysoczyzna land is the 50 – thousand Jihlava.
