Jihočeský kraj
The south–Czech land (Jihocesky kraj) is a territory of woody lowlands, full of lowland bogs and fish ponds. There are here mountain areas. This region is not destroyed by civilization and the nature of this region is uniquely diversified.
The Territory of the Protected Landscape has been marked in the Blansky Forest where there are 8 natural monuments and 10 smaller reserves, among others the Divci Kamen reserve ("The Rock of girls") with a 70 – meter rock overlooking the joint between the Wełtawa river and the Kremezski stream and the ruins of a gothic castle on the opposite bank of the Wełtawa river.
Trebonsko is a bio–spherical reserve which has the territory of 700 km². This is a unique area due to the richness of natural bogs and a precious water vegetation. There have been marked here numerous canals (for example Zlata Stoka and Nova Reka) and as many as 460 ponds. Trebonsko is the breeding place and the stop on the migration route of water birds. There live here many endangered animal species, for example the otter. Two boggy territories have a special natural significance – Trebonskie Rybniky and Trebonska Raseliniste. In Trebonsko there have been preserved big areas of naturally meandering rivers, for example Luznice. The center of the nearby city of Trebon has been recognized as the city reserve of monuments (among others the Renaissance castle), this is also a health resort.
In the south–Czech land there lies one of the most beautiful cities in the whole Czech Republic, Cesky Krumlov, which has been typed into the World Cultural Heritage List UNESCO. This is a true architectural jewel, picturesquely located on the hills near Wełtawa. The local castle has 300 rooms and 5 courtyards and is the second biggest castle in the Czech Republic (after the Prague castle). In the city of Krumlov you must see the Old City, the Latran district which is the former settlement near the castle and the gothic church of saint Wit.
The capital city of this land is Czeskie Budziejowice whose center is a city monumental reserve. It is worth seeing here the biggest market in the Czech Republic (133 X 133 m), the monastery and the Dominican church with precious gothic murals from the XIII century, the remnants of the defensive walls and the Gothic – Renaissance Black Tower which has the height of 72 m and from which there spreads a unique view on the city and its neighborhood.
