Královéhradecký kraj
The hradecki land (Kralovehradecky kraj) is situated in the north - eastern part of the Czech Republic. It borders with the pardubicki land, the liberecki land and the central – Czech land and from the north it borders with Poland. On its territory there lie uniquely beautiful, as far as their landscape is concerned, and precious, as far as their nature is concerned, areas of the Czech Paradise, the Karkonosze range, the Kladske Pomezi, the Hradecka and the Orlickie Mountains together with the foothills.
The Czech Paradise – a territory which has a unique charm, probably is the most beautiful corner in the Czech Republic. There is here a diversity of nature – valleys, “rocky cities”, meadows, pine forests, orchards and also ponds, bogs and lowland bogs which combine with a richness of monuments (medieval castles and palaces as well as the wooden folk architecture). Rocky cities deserve a special attention (the Prochowskie rocks, the Betlejemskie rocks, Hruboskalsko, Maloskalsko, Klokocske), valleys (the Podtrosecka valley, the Izery valley, the Plakanek), ponds (the Jinolickie ponds) and caves (The Bozkowskie Dolomitowe Caves). The so – called Golden Path of the Czech Paradise (123 km) combines the most interesting places of this region among others the Drabskie svetnicki, the Kost castle, the ruins of the Trosky castle, the Hruba Rock castle, the Kozakov peak.
The Karkonosze range is the highest and the most famous mountain range in the Czech Republic on the Polish – Czech border. The majority of its territory lies on the Czech side. The highest peak of the Karkonosze range and of the whole Sudety range is the Snowy Mountain (1602 masl). In the Karkonosze range there is the spring of the Łeba river. Uniquely precious as far as their nature is concerned are the following places: among others the natural reserve Upy Lowland Bog (Upska raselina), the Dworski Forest – a protected area with the remnants of the beech wood, the Snowy Pots reserve – the biggest one in the territory of the Karkonosze range, the Giant’s Pot reserve (Obri dul), the Bozkowskie Caves, the Pancava - the highest waterfall in the Czech Republic (149 m).
A great natural attraction of the hradecki land is the Adrspassko–teplicke rocks natural reserve, in other words so – called "rocky city" with a maze of gorges and ravines. The best known rocky forms are "The lovers", "The starost and the starost’s wife", "The sugar head", "The Karkonosze chair", "The Karkonosze piano".
The capital city of this land is Hradec Kralove which is the oldest established Czech city. It is worth visiting here the Holy Spirit‘ s cathedral from the XIV century and the White Tower from the XVI century.
