Moravskoslezský kraj

The morawsko–śląski land (Moravskoslezsky kraj), despite the high level of industrialization, boasts numerous landscape territories which are under protection as well as many natural reserves. These are created by dense forests, rocks, untypical natural formations, lowland bogs and marshes that have a unique character. The Jesioniki range and the Beskidy range are areas that have an amazingly clean mountain air and an untouched, virgin nature. This is a dreamed place for the amateurs of the walking and bicycle tourism.

The Jesioników range consists of the Fat and the Low Jesionik. In the Fat Jesionik range there lies the Praded mountain (1491 masl) which is called the “Morawski glacier”. There are here natural reserves: The Rejviz, the Praded and the Skritek and 5 health resorts. In the Low Jesionik range a significant element of the landscape and an attractive goal of tourists is the youngest dam in the Czech Republic – the Slezska Harta. There is also here a monumental health resort the Janske lazne.

In the Beskidy Śląsko–Morawskie range there is the most extensive landscape park in the Czech Republic with numerous natural reserves (like for example the prime Mionsz forest, the Radogoszcz).

Along the Odra river there lies the Poodri region. The Poodri Landscape Park is the youngest protected landscape region in the Czech Republic. You can admire here the system of meanders of the Odra river, the unique riparian forests, the boggy meadows and the system of ponds that had been established in the XV century. There are here numerous tourist trails and educational paths, one of the most beautiful ones is the Stribrny chodnik.

The former capital city of the Czech Silesia region is Opawa. You can admire here an example of beautiful Silesian gothic in the church of the Virgin Mary’s Ascension and the medieval church of saint Waclaw. Today the administrative center of this land is the city of Ostrava, the third biggest one in the Czech Republic.
