Karlovarský kraj
The karlowarski land (Karlovarsky kraj) is the most protruded toward the west land in the Czech Republic. It spreads near the border with the Bawaria region and the Saksonia region. There occur here exceptionally numerous mineral springs having therapeutic qualities, therefore on this relatively small area there is an amazing thickening of lovely health resorts. The city of Karlowe Wary – the capital city of this land is at the same time the oldest, the biggest and the most famous spa in the Czech Republic. Mineral waters having various temperatures help among others in treating arthritic diseases and the diseases of the digestive system. Among around 100 springs only 12 are used in treatment. The city of Mariańskie Baths is a true architectural pearl. In this city and in its neighborhood there gush about 140 cold mineral waters. The smallest of the three famous health resorts, the Franciszkowe Baths has the statute of a historical center.
Other health resorts of the region are: Jachymov, Kynzvart and Konstantinovy Lazne.
The karlowarski land also offers many natural attractions. There occur here 80 protected areas (among others the Soos near the Cheb city and the Svatovskie Rocks – rocky forms in the Loket neighborhood), peat bogs in the vicinity of Kladsko, the Slavkovsky Forest – a unique, as far as its nature is concerned, area of forests and meadows between the towns of Karlowe Wary, Mariańskie Łaźnie and Kynspersko near the city of Ohria, where there occur rocky formations, mineral springs and the remnants of volcanoes (for example the Komorni hurka near the Franciszkowe Baths, the Zelezna hurka near the city of Chleb and the Podhorni vrch near Mariańskie Baths).
For sure it is worth visiting the city of Cheb – one of the oldest cities in the country where there is the only one imperial palatium in the Czech Republic. The symbol of the city is Spalicek – a group of 11 late – gothic merchant houses from the XIII century. The city of Loket boasts a beautiful historical center and the best preserved in the Czech Republic early – gothic castle. In the castle Becov near Tepla there is kept the reliquary of saint Maur, the most precious treasure of the Czech culture and art after the coronation jewels.
In the vicinity of the water damps Jesenice and Skalka you can bathe and also dive, angle, do the surfing and yachting.
