Ústecký kraj

The ustecki land (Ustecky kraj) is situated in the north – western part of the Czech Republic, it borders with Germany.

The greatest attraction of this region is the so – called Czech Switzerland, located in the most protruded toward the north part of the Czech Republic in the vicinity of the border with Germany. The Czech Switzerland National Park is the youngest national park in the Czech Republic (set up in the year 2000). It includes the territory of 79 km². It is a part of a bigger region, the Łabskie Sanderlings. The border town Hrensko is considered the gate of the whole area. Phenomenal rocky forms from sanderling in the Czech Switzerland have the shapes of among others rocky gates, towers, honey combs, hourglasses. There also live here many precious species of animals, for example the lynx, the eagle owl, the otter, the kingfisher, the peregrine and the Atlantic salmon (it goes to the Atlantic and returns to the streams of the Czech Switzerland). It is worth seeing the Pravcicka Gate – the biggest natural rocky gate from sanderling in the Central Europe (the height of 16 m, the length of 26 m), the highest peak – Ruzovsky vrch (619 masl), the Kijowska Valley, the gorges of the Kamenice river, The Quiet and Wild Gorge, the rock of Mary near the town of Jetrichovic (where you can get by boat). In the park there is a network of marked trails, 3 educational paths and 45 km marked bicycle trails.

The Kamencove Lake and the Nechranice Lake create a pleasant recreational area of the ustecki land. The capital city of the land is Usti nad Labą where there is a castle from the XIV century and a gothic church. It is worth visiting beautiful monumental city of Litomerice (gothic fortifications, numerous well preserved gothic, renaissance and baroque buildings) as well as the towns of Kadan and Terezin where there is a unique stronghold from the XVIII century which had been a political prison since the half of the XIX century. In this region there are also located worth noticing palaces (among others Klasterec nad Ohri, Krasny Dvur and Velke Brezno) and monasteries in the towns of Rumburk and Osek.
