Liberecký kraj

The liberecki land (Liberecky kraj) is situated in the north of the Czech Republic on the border with Poland and Germany. The beautiful nature of this area together with numerous bicycle and walking trails as well as a rich accommodation base make this region uniquely attractive for tourists.

In the liberecki land there lies the Machuv land. Its name is connected with the name of the greatest Czech Romantic poet Karl Hynka Macha for whom the territory was an inspiration for writing his main works.

A notable part of this region is taken by the Kokorinsko Landscape Park which is covered by spruce – pine forests, full of long canyons and gorges as well as by interesting formations from sanderling. The biggest and the most popular water reservoir of this region is the Machowo lake. It is surrounded by the Ralska pahorkatina hills with ruins of a few castles (among others Bezdez and Ralsko).

Thanks to the diversification of landscape, the Czeskolipska Land belongs to attractive recreational terrains. There are here numerous ponds (among others the Holanskie rybniky and the Hamersky Rybnik). The testimony of the rich history of this area are many castles and palaces.

The Łużyckie mountains constitute a small border mountain range having steep peaks that are of a volcanic origin and stand out from dense woods. This is an area uniquely ecologically clean.

The highest peak, Jested (1012 m) has a characteristic scenic view from where there spreads a magnificent view also on the territory of Germany and Poland.

The most protruded toward the north mountain range of the Republic of Czech, the Izerskie Mountains, belongs to the oldest protected landscape in the Czech Republic. There are here a few scenic towers: Bramberk, Cerna Studnice, Kralovka and one on the Smrk mountain. Toward the north from the Izerskie Mountains there lies the Fryndlancki Land – a land of grounds, meadows, forests and streams. On the territory of the liberecki land there is also partly the Karkonoski National Park and the Czech Paradise (partly in the hardecki land). The capital city of the land is Liberec, the center of winter sports.
