Trnavský kraj

The Trnawski land is situated in the western part of Slovakia. From the west it borders with the Bratysławski land, from the north with the Republic of Czech, from the south with Hungary. It includes the regions of the so – called Zahorie, Dolne Povazie and Podunajsko. It is cut by the biggest river of Slovakia – Wag.

The capital city of this land is Trnawa on whose market square you can admire the XVI – century tower with a scenic gallery, the saint Nikolas church, the former university district with the cathedral of saint John the Baptist (the XVII century) and the preserved city walls. "The pearl of the Zahorie region" is the town of Skalica which boasts a beautiful old town (among others the market square, the saint Michael church from the XIV century and the town hall).

In the Trnawski land there lies the most famous health resort in Slovakia – Pieszczany. You can admire here numerous buildings from the XIX century, a beautiful spring park (the territory of 40 ha). In the spa there is water having the temperature of 67 – 68 ºC which helps in treating the diseases of motor organs as well as osteoporosis.

In the region there are also two other known health resorts: Dunajska Streda where there are 7 swimming – pools with water having the temperature of 25 – 28 ºC and 30 – 36 ºC which helps treating rheumatism and Wielki Meder with 4 swimming – pools with water having the temperature of 25 – 28 ºC and 30 – 38 ºC. Near the bath there are water heaters where there is a half – uncovered swimming – pool (38 – 40 ºC) in which you can bathe outdoors even on frosty days.

It is also worth visiting the water birds reserve – the Dunajskie Łęgi Landscape Park. It has the territory of over 12 thousands ha and it consists of 5 separate parts (two of them lie on the territory of the city of Bratysława, others lie in the dead river branch (Cicovskie mrtve rameno), on the Velkolelsky ostrov island and on the artificial island between the old channel of the Dunaj river and the inflow canal of the Gabcikovo water dam.

The main bicycle trail of the Zagórze region is the Zahorska Bicycle Trail which has the length of 120 km. Through the Tarnawski land there also runs the Main Wag Valley Trail (120 km) from which there deflects the Kompaniciarska Bicycle Trail having the length of 55 km. Numerous bicycle trails are also in the neighborhood of the Skalica city.
