Prešovský kraj

The Preszowski land is situated in the north – eastern part of Slovakia. It borders from the north with Poland, from the east with Ukraine. It includes the historical regions of: Spisz, Sarysz, Upper Zemplin and Zamagurie.

The main center is the city of Preszów with a prettily renovated old city. On the market square there stands the gothic church of saint Nikolas (the XIV century), the XVII – century evangelical church and the building of the former protestant school. While being in the Preszowski land you also necessarily need to visit the towns of Lewocza and Bardejów. The town of Lewocza – surrounded by defensive walls – is the true jewel of this region.

On the extensive market square, surrounded with tenement houses from the XIV and XV century, there stands the saint Jacob church – the biggest gothic temple in the town of Spisz. The uniquely beautiful town of Bardejów has been typed into the World Cultural Heritage List UNESCO. On the bardejowski market square you can admire gothic and renaissance tenement houses, the renaissance town hall and the monumental saint Idzi church from whose tower (76 m) there spreads a magnificent view on the old town. The town has amazingly well preserved defensive walls along with the barbican and the towers.

In the region there is one of the biggest castle complexes in the central Europe – the Spiski Castle which covers the territory of 4 ha.

Bardejovskie Kupele is the biggest health resort in eastern Slovakia. The waters of this health resort help in treating the diseases of the digestive system, of the heart as well as of the respiratory system.

On the territory of the Preszowski land there spread the terrains of a few National Parks: the Pieniński National Park – the smallest national park in Slovakia, the Połoniny National Park – the most protruded one toward the east with the reserves Stuzica, Havesova and Rozok and the Kyjowsky prales wood which are typed into the World Natural Heritage UNESCO. A neighbor of  Połoniny is the Eastern Karpaty Landscape Park.

A big attraction of the region is the "Gothic Trail" which includes 24 precious towns and 9 cities (is has the length of 276 km). The main bicycle trails running through this region are: The Karpacka Bicycle Trail in the area of the town of  Preszów (over 200 km), the Pienińska Bicycle Trail (63 km) and the Zamagurska Bicycle Trail (66 km).
