Karlovarský kraj

The karlowarski land (Karlovarsky kraj) is the most protruded toward the west land in the Czech Republic. It spreads near the border with the Bawaria region and the Saksonia region. There occur here exceptionally numerous mineral springs having therapeutic qualities, therefore on this relatively small area there is an amazing thickening of lovely health resorts.

Nitriansky kraj

The Nitrzański land lies in the south – western  part of Slovakia. From the south it borders with Hungary, from the north with the Trenczyński land. It included the areas of the Ponitrze region (Ponitrie) and the Naddunajski region (Podunajsko). The main rivers flowing through these territories are Wag, Nitra and Dunaj. The terrains of the Nirzański land are the warmest and the most fertile areas of Slovakia.

The capital city of this region, Nitra, called "the mother of Slovakian cities", is the oldest city settlement on the territory of Slovakia. It is here that, in the year 828 there had been erected the first Christian church on the Slovakian ground (there are no remnants). It is worth hiking the hill (218 masl) with the castle (Renaissance – Baroque fortifications) and the cathedral of saint Emeram (its beginnings date back to the XI century, today it is Baroque). Under the castle there is the so – called Upper City in the Baroque – Classicist style (among others the Franciscan monastery and the saint Peter and Paul church from the year 1630, the so – called Big Seminar from the XVIII century).

On the border of Slovakia and Hungary there lies the Komarno stronghold. This is a fortification complex, once the most modern in Europe. This stronghold had been erected in the XVI century for the defensive purpose against Turks, it was repeatedly extended later on. It has never been defeated.

The Nitrzański land is also amazingly attractive as far as its natural values are concerned. The landscape park Ponitrie has the height of over 37 thousands ha. In its southern part there lies the mountain range Tribec with the highest peak Velky Tribec (829 masl); there are here also the ruins of the following castles: Gymes, Cierny hrad and Oponicky hard. In its northern part there lies a higher mountain range, volcanic Vtacnik (Ptasznik) whose highest peak – Vtacnik is as high as 1346 masl. The Kovacovskie mounds are also very interesting – volcanic rocks near the town of Sturov where there is a natural reserve the Kovacovskie mounds – juh.

On the southern slopes of the foothills Tribec there spreads the Nitrzański Royal Wine Trail which includes 159 communes, among others Nitra, Zlate Moravce, Vrable and Levice.

The main bicycle trails of the Nitrzański land are the Naddunajska Trail (the valley of Dunaj) from the town of  Komarna to the town of Sturova which has the length of 48 km and the Main Ponitrze Trail having the length of 55 km.
