Trenčiansky kraj

The Trenczyński Land is a region located in the western part of Slovakia, it borders from the north with the Republic of Czech, from the south with the Nitrzański Land. It is cut by the greatest river of Slovakia – Wag. It includes the regions of the so called Zahorie and the Stredne Povazie.

The capital city of this land is Trenczyn called „the pearl of the Valley of Wag”, a city of  ancient origin. It is worth visiting the market with the XVIII – century column, the baroque Piarist church, the XVI – century parish church, the Turkish Gate, the synagogue and the reconstructed castle (whose oldest part comes from the XIII century) with the Parish Stairs from dating from the XVI century. From this castle there spreads a beautiful view on the valley of Wag.

The castle in the town of Bojnice is a great attraction of the region and it constitutes one of the most willingly visited castles in the whole Slovakia. Numerous turrets, balconies and bay windows lend it a fabulous appearance. This castle stood at this place already in the XIII century, however the present – day neo – gothic style of the castle comes from the XIX century. It is surrounded with a beautiful park. Impressive ruins of the Beckov castle (XII/XIII century) and the Cachtice castle (XIII century) are also worth noticing.

In the Trenczynski Land there are famous health resorts. In Trenciańskie Teplice where there are famous historical baths Hamman in the oriental style, there occur sulphuric thermal waters having the temperature of 37, 7 C – 40 C which help in treating motor organs diseases and neurological diseases. The town of Bojnice is one of the oldest spas in Slovakia (XVI century). The calcium – magnesium springs, having the temperature of 28 – 52 C, that occur here help in the treatment of the nervous system diseases and the motor system diseases. There is here also the oldest and the biggest zoo in Slovakia.

Through the Trenczyński Land there runs one of the main bicycle trails – the Stiavnicka Bicycle Trail having the length of 68 km. Bicycle trails also surround the castle in Bojnice and run in the neighborhood of the town of Poważska Bystrzyca.
