NATURE AND TOURISM
Huge forrest complexes, numerous lakes and a clean natural environment constitute the tourist attraction of the lubuskie province. Tourism and recreation concentrate mainly around lakes surrounded by woods, grouped in the eastern half of the province; the most popular lakes being: Łagowskie, Lubiąż, Niesłysz, Ciecz, Głębokie (on the Łagowskie Lakeland) and Sławskie as well as Osiek. In this province there are many summer centers with well – prepared baths and with an opportunity for doing water sports and angling. Tourism also develops on the lakes connected with the river Obra on the border with the Wielkopolska region.
Attractive water trails are: the lubuski trail (from the town of Sława, along the river Obra through the town of Międzyrzecz, further along the river Warta to the town of Sanok and Gorzów Wielkopolski), the Pliszka river trail (from the town of Łagów) and the trail on the Drwia river. Forrest complexes, rich in animals, are a perfect terrain for hunters. On the territory of the province there are horse riding centers. Because of numerous woods, the area of the territory has the features of a curative climate. The town of Łagów plays the function of a spa. In this area the most precious fragments of the prime beech tree stand create a reserve called “Buczyny Łagowskie”.
An amazing attraction for tourists is the ZOO safari in the town of Świerkocin. This is a 20 ha open terrain on which there live wild animals from Africa, Mongolia, India and South America which can be admired while going in a car or on the bus. Because the animals are not closed in cages, you can feel like on real safari. You can meet here for example zebras, antelopes, African ostriches, two – humped camels, fallow deers, llamas, buffalos, suricates. Only the animals which are dangerous for the visitors such as, for example, lions, pumas, dingos have marked off corrals.
