NATURE AND TOURISM
The most interesting tourist regions are the puławski province, the Roztocze district, the Łęczyńsko – Włodawska Plain and the cities of Zamość and Lublin. One of the regions that are especially interesting and most willingly visited by tourists is the district in the triangle of the towns of Puławy – Kaziemierz Dolny – Nałęczów, where there has been created the Kazimierski Lanscape Park. This terrain is crossed by the ravined valley of the Vistula river along with rocky slopes steeply going down towards the river. Erosion processes which take place in the area of the park have dug deep loessic gorges (the deepest one have 30 – 40 m – in the surrounding of the towns of Nałęczowa and Kazimierz Dolny). The central point of the region is the town of Kazimierz Dolny – which is a tourist – recreational place visited by droves of tourists (monumental architecture, walking trails, a skiing trail in the winter). The town of Nałęczów, which is located nearby, is the only spa in the province (its specialty is treating heart diseases). The Roztocze district is also a beautiful but more deserted region (with the Roztoczański National Park). There are there deep valleys with numerous miniature waterfalls ( in the neighborhood of the town of Susiec on the rivers Tanew and Jeleń), inselberg hills (Wapienia). Here the main summer centers are the towns of Susiec, Krasnobród and Zwierzyniec. In the vicinity of the Roztocze district there is the Solska wood and the Janowski forrest. On the Łęczyńsko – Włodawska plain the tourist traffic concentrates around lakes that occur here (the lakes of Piaseczno, Zagłębocze, Firlej, Białe, Bialskie). In the western part of the plain there has been created the Poleski National Park being the miniature of tundra and forrest – tundra. There occurs here the greatest in Europe habitat of the mud turtle.
